Task 2 The Nature of Energy
Think Pair Share
- Describe what is meant by the term "energy".
- List some examples of energy
- "Energy cannot be created nor destroyed. It is transformed form one type to another." What is meant by the term "transform"?
- Give an example. Draw a flow chart of this example.
- Energy may be transferred. Explain what it meant by the term "transfer"
- Give an example. Draw a flow chart of this example.
Task 4 Calculations involving Mechanical Energy
Rules for setting out science calculations.
Some simple calculations
Task 5 Compare and contrast the features of kinetic and potential energy
Task 6 AEP Physics Thinking Challenge
Task 7 The Relationships between Work, Energy and Power
ie Calculations
Visit our Thinking Science Page and scroll to Lesson 11 Inverse Proportionality
to help review the thinking behind building formulae.
When an object moves (changes its position) because of the push or pull of a FORCE we say WORK is done. Both of the variables of FORCE and DISPLACEMENT may be measured.
F = force applied (newtons)
s = displacement (m)
W = work done (joules)
The equation for this relationship looks like this... __________________
F = force applied (newtons)
s = displacement (m)
W = work done (joules)
- WORK is directly proportional to DISPLACEMENT. So if displacement increases then WORK __________________ . Give an example.
- WORK is directly proportional to the FORCE applied to move an object. So if the FORCE needed to move and object is great then the WORK done is ______________ . Give an example.
- Now Force and displacement are inversely proportional. As one quantity increases the other ________________________ . Give an example.
The equation for this relationship looks like this... __________________
