Analysing the data
Classifying the planets.
- Group the planets according to the variable of diameter. What values will you use to place the planets into two groups?
- Group the planets according to the variable of temperature. What values will you use to place the planets into two groups?
- Group the planets according to the variable of nature of the sphere. What values will you use to place the planets into two groups? _
Use the concepts of melting points and boiling points to explain why gases in the atmosphere are gases and not solid or liquids.
For example explain why mercury has sodium metal in its atmosphere.
Explain why Jupiter has hydrogen in its atmosphere.
(Note that to think about this I need to draw myself a thermometer with a scale from negative 273 degrees C to 500 degrees C.)
Calculate the density of each planet.
Draw a graph to show what happens to the temperature of planets as the distance from the sun increases.
Draw a graph to show what happens to the mass of the planets as the distance from the sun increases.
