Week 8 and Week 9
Task 1 Thinking Science - The Fair Test
Task 2 Exploring temperature changes and changes of state
Problem
Explain what happens to the temperature of water as it is heated with a bunsen burner.
Method
Do a Scientific drawing and set up equipment as in SA1 page 226, Figure 5.3.4
Take the temperature of the water every minute.
Stop heating when the temperature reading stays constant.
Results
Draw up a results table with the headings
Time (minutes) Temperature (degrees C) Observations
Graphing
Graph your results.
Step 1 - Think about the type of graph that you will plot and explain why this is the correct type of graph to plot.
Step 2 - Draw up axes to fit the page
Step 3 - label the axes with the variable and the (units)
Step 4 - Make even intervals along the axes to represent the values of the variables.
Step 5 - Plot the relationship
Step 5 Write a title that states the relationship between time and temperature as water is heated.
Describe the overall shape of the graph
On your graph label the region where the water was boiling. Describe the shape of the graph in this region.
Now use the Kinetic Particle Theory to explain why this happens.
