This task is your final assignment of Year 7. You will demonstrate your understanding of forces, motion and simple machines by building a working Rube Goldberg machine. A Rube Goldberg machine is a seemingly complicated series of steps that are performed in order to complete a simple task. A simple task could be capturing a mouse, popping a balloon, opening a gate or a door, for example.
Each student will be provided with a booklet for research, planning, designing and building a Rube Goldberg machine. The research, planning, designing and building will be conducted as a group. Individual students make and keep records in their own booklet.
You may bring materials from home.
There is to no electricity or fire to be used in the machine.
An evaluation rubric, which you can used o guide you, is included on the front of the booklet.
You may film or photograph the steps in your build, and/or the final working model. These will be presented to the class on the final days of the term.

2015 was an historic year.
It was the first year that Year 7 students entered secondary school in Western Australia. Year 7 students are leaders in this respect. I think that you have had a wonderful year in your first year of science at High School, and I have enjoyed working with such vibrant, happy people. I know why science is important to study, but I would like you to tell me why studying science is important. |
