Wind Turbines
A wind turbine during its working life generates less energy than was produced by the burning of coal and other carbon sources (something like 400 tonnes for smelting steel and making concrete) used in its manufacture. Windmills are a boon to industry in China. Here they despoil the landscape, kill bats and birds, including eagles that come for the carrion, and make life unbearable for people living nearby.
